Auto zoom
Auto zoom screen recording on Mac, planned from your clicks.
Meye is a native Mac screen recorder. While you record, it keeps the pointer’s path and every click as data beside the picture. Auto Zoom on Clicks turns those clicks into zooms, and any zoom can follow the cursor. Nothing is baked in: change, move or delete a zoom later, and restyle the cursor too.
Zooms from what you did.
A zoom in Meye is a segment on the editor’s Lens row, worked out from the recording’s own data. You can see each one, drag it and undo it.
Recorded as data
The pointer’s path and each click are saved next to the video, and key presses too when you record with the keyboard on. That is what lets Meye zoom, restyle and retime after you stop recording.
Planned from clicks
Auto Zoom on Clicks is on for new recordings. It plans zoom segments around your clicks at the draft’s default depth of 2× and leaves the zooms you made yourself alone.
A zoom that follows
A zoom can follow the pointer. It holds still while the pointer moves within a dead zone of 0.4 of the view, then glides after it with a critically damped move, so it does not overshoot.
Every zoom stays editable.
The same settings are in the editor’s sidebar and in the meye command line. Times are seconds of the finished video.
| Control | What it does | Command |
|---|---|---|
| Auto zoom | On for new recordings. Turning it off removes the zooms it planned and keeps yours. | meye zoom settings --auto or --no-auto |
| Depth | 1.2× to 4×. Changes the planned zooms nobody has touched. | meye zoom settings --factor 2.5 |
| Speed | How fast the view moves: slow, medium or fast. | meye zoom settings --speed fast |
| Add a zoom | Edit › Add Zoom (Z): 2 s from the playhead, aimed where the pointer was at its start. | meye zoom add 12 |
| Follow the cursor | Keeps the pointer in view for the whole zoom. | meye zoom add 3 8 --follow cursor |
| Fixed point | Aims at a point on the recording instead. | meye zoom add 3 6 --factor 2 --center 400,300 |
| Hang on clicks | Starts 0.4 s before click 2 and ends 1 s after click 3. The zoom stays with those clicks when you cut or change speed. | meye zoom add 3 6 --pin-start click:2-0.4 --pin-end click:3+1 |
| Change or delete | By the zoom’s number in time order. | meye zoom change 1 --end 7, meye zoom delete 1 |
A cursor you can restyle later.
Because the pointer is data, its look is a setting. These work on recordings made in Meye.
Look and size
System arrow, pointer or dot, from 0.5× to 3× the recorded size. The pointer can take your colour and turn as it moves.
meye cursor --look dot --size 1.6Smoothing
0 to 1. New recordings start at 0, which keeps small hovers. Raise it for gliding moves, or use Rewrite Cursor to tidy the whole path.
meye cursor --smoothing 0.6Click effects
None, ripple, glow or press, with an optional colour change on each click.
meye cursor --click-effect rippleHide when idle
On for new recordings: the cursor fades out while the pointer rests and back in before it moves.
meye cursor --hide-when-idleKeystrokes
Shortcuts show as chips like ⌘ S or ⌘ Z ×3, and typing grows letter by letter. Record with the keyboard on to keep them.
meye keys --show --typingMotion blur
Natural (a 180° shutter) by default for new recordings, or strong. It blurs zooms and the pointer the way a film camera would.
meye style --motion-blur naturalPace and camera moves.
Zoom is one move of Meye’s lens. The rest of the timing tools sit next to it.
Skip idle
Speeds up stretches of at least 2 s with no pointer movement, click, key or sound: 4× up to 8 s, 8× beyond, keeping 0.5 s at normal speed on each side.
meye skip-idle --onSpeed and freeze
Any range from 0.5× to 8×, with pitch kept. A freeze holds one frame for 0.1 to 30 s.
meye speed --range 12,20.5 --rate 4Lens moves
Lens actions such as push in, pan and handheld sit on the same Lens row as zooms, with curves and timing like any other action.
meye lens listPinned to moments
A zoom can hang on a click, a key, a beat or a bar of the score. Cut or retime the draft and it moves with that moment, in the same undo step.
meye zoom add 12 --pin click:3Or let your agent set the zooms.
Claude Code, Codex or a shell script can run the same controls through the meye command line. Each command is one undo step in your editor.
$ meye zoom settings --auto --factor 2.5 --speed fast$ meye zoom add 3.5 --follow cursor$ meye cursor --look dot --smoothing 0.6 --click-effect ripple$ meye skip-idle --on$ meye preview --at 2,4,8 # PNGs to check the framing$ meye export --format mp4 --size 1080p --wait
The command line edits drafts on Pro. On Free it runs help, version, status, schema and pro only; the 7-day Pro trial starts at first launch.
What it does not do.
So you know before you download.
- Auto zoom and cursor changes need a recording made in Meye. A movie you import has no pointer or click data, so there is nothing for auto zoom to plan from.
- Auto zoom plans from clicks. It does not read what is on screen or guess where you are looking.
- Meye needs macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon, and it is not yet notarized by Apple, so the first launch takes one extra step.
- On Free, the first 5 captures each day export with a small “Made with Meye” mark. Pro removes the mark and the daily limit.
Questions
Yes. Auto Zoom on Clicks is on for new recordings: Meye plans zoom segments around your clicks. Turn it off in the sidebar or with meye zoom settings --no-auto, and the planned zooms are removed while yours stay.
Yes. Every zoom is a segment on the Lens row. Drag its ends, change its depth from 1.2× to 4×, aim it at a point or make it follow the cursor, or delete it. Each change is one undo step.
Yes. A zoom set to follow the cursor keeps the pointer in view. It waits while the pointer moves inside a dead zone of 0.4 of the view, then glides after it without overshooting.
Yes. Set smoothing from 0 to 1, or use Rewrite Cursor to tidy the whole path and move a click to another moment. Restore puts the recorded path back.
No. Auto zoom needs the click data Meye saves while it records. You can import other movies into Meye, but there are no clicks to plan zooms from.
Recording and editing, auto zoom included, have no limits on Free. The first 5 captures each day export with a small mark; Pro removes it. Driving Meye from the command line needs Pro, and the 7-day trial needs no card.
